Real People in Love: Brit & Brady

I first discovered Brit as the Landlocked Bride. As you might imagine I have oodles of wedding blogs bookmarked and Brit offers tons of inspiration as both the Landlocked Bride and as Miss Argyle on Weddingbee. The other night I was feeling a little nervous I wouldn't have a guest post for this week and luckily for me (and you!) Brit volunteered, thank you again, Brit!

How old are you & Brady?
We are both 24.

What are your occupations?
I am a project coordinator for a web development firm by day and wedding blogger by night. Brady is a pilot and flight instructor for our Alma Mater, Saint Louis University.

How did you meet?
We met at a local bar during our second semester of Senior year of college. Our two best friends are pretty much the reason we met. My best friend (and Maid of Honor) convinced me to go out on a Friday night. Reluctant, I decided to go out and have fun with my girlfriends. While in the middle of a game of pool, one of the pilots started flirting it up with me, later he approached me while we were hanging by the bar, and we just started a long conversation about everything. That's where it all started.

How did you get engaged?
Our story is the perfect story for us. After having to move on to Plan B and C because of a few changes in our plans while we were visiting friends in Colorado. Brady popped the question while we were at the top of a ski run in Colorado. He didn't get down on one knee. It wasn't a huge, dramatic scene. It was perfect and us. And, obviously I said yes. Did I mention that we both LOVE Colorado?

Define Love:
I think love is being comfortable with who you are, because if you are not able to love yourself, then it's hard to fully love someone else. But, love is also friendship and dependability. It's a rock when you need one, a shoulder when you need to cry, and a smile when everything is perfect.

What is the toughest part of being in a committed relationship?
The toughest part is being able to make time for each other. With our schedules being so hectic, sometimes it's hard to just have an hour together. It's bad enough we are on different sleep schedules and have a million things going on after work with grad school and activities. But, it also ties in with communication. Those two elements are key to making sure needs are met and knowing that we are appreciative of each other.

What is the best part?
The consistency of having your best friend in your life. Having the support and love. And being able to share your life with someone else. Not everyone wants that, but it's a wonderful thing that I am blessed to have.

What is the best day the two of you have had together?
Most days are "best" days. But if we had to pick one, it would be the day we got engaged. Not only were we in the presence of two of our best friends, but we were in one of our favorite places in the world, Colorado. The love was just so obvious that day.

What makes you different from other couples?
I think we have a unique dynamic because we challenge each other everyday. Not just as individuals, but intellectually as well. It has really helped to build our "couple character."

What is your favorite thing to do together?
Go flying (see:fiance is a pilot) and go to Colorado whenever possible.

Do you have a song?
We do, but it also happens to be our first dance song, so we're keeping that a secret until the wedding day.

What is the most essential element of making it?
Making time for each other-whether it's for communication, support, love, romance. You have to really make time for each other.

What are your hopes for the future?
For both of us to succeed with our business ventures and to move to Colorado after the wedding. After that? We'll let life take us where it wants to.

Anything else the world needs to know about love?
Love is not perfect. You must fight for it, you must nurture it and you must put your energy into it. It's not supposed to be easy. But the payoff is *so* worth it.
