Roundup: Things for your BFF

Today's roundup is another roundup inspired by a lovely blog reader. Lauren was looking for gifts for her bridesmaids (particularly yellow) and I thought it would be fun to expand the topic a little and make a roundup of things for your best girl friend.

"Parteners in Crime" is so much better than "Best Friends."

A perfect way to keep warm on cool summer evening.

The perfect way for your bridesmaids to keep all their goodies together.

A wonderful personalized necklace.

Friendship as art, nothing sweeter.

Classic and elegant necklace.

Maybe the cuteset bridesmaid clutch I've ever seen.

The perfect necklace for the girl who's been your friend since Elementary School.

A delightfully bright topper.

A wonderfully cheery necklace.

An adorable tote for bridesmaids to carry their shoes after the reception.

A sweet little heart.

It doesn't get more honest than this.

Just in case you have 2 best friends.

An adorable print for long distance distance friends.

A bright and cheery bridesmaid necklace.

Drops of sunshine brighten up your friend's day.

Fun, ruffly necklace.

PS Don't forget to sign up for the giveaway!

Reunion

This weekend I met up with three of the girls I lived with in college. These are the girls I spent my senior year with, the girls who tried to convince me to date Jus, the girls I partied with, and the girls that I share a lot of history with.

We met at the Behemoth and walked to one of our college haunts where Jus & BFF Beth's husband sat at the bar and pretended not to know us.

We reminisced about our wild times and caught up on our current lives.

In four years three of us have gotten married and one of us has become a mom.
And now
(I'm really trying not to be totally disgusted by how fat I look here-ugh!)

We were able to stay out until 2 but there was no dancing on tables or taking home random guys, we're much too grown up for that.

How was your weekend?

Hip Happity Monday

Good Morning, darlings! How was your weekend?
Ours was good, very busy and fairly productive.
Remember our new friends M & M that I've gone on and on about?
Well, this week they got married in California. They invited us about a month ago and with the cost of flights and hotels we knew we wouldn't be able to go.
Then, last Monday Jus & I decided that we would drive 2100 miles to surprise our friends at their wedding. I packed, we made arrangements for the dogs and then we got to talking; about the mortgage payment, the fact we have a wedding this year, and the idea that this would have to take the place of our honeymoon, and we realized that sometimes it really sucks to be a grown up.
Then my parents got involved and offered to buy us plane tickets for our birthdays, we could stay with a friend and make the trip super cheap. But then our plans fell through and plane tickets skyrocketed.
I'll admit I was a little mopey about the situation until I came up with a great way that we could still surprise our friends. They recently bought their first house and have been working at making it their own, on the docket is redoing the kitchen and they hadn't had time to paint it yet. So Jus & I headed over to their place Saturday (luckily they had given me a key to get their mail) and painted. M & M had chosen the color so all we had to do was slap some paint on the walls but it was fun to know that we would surprise them.

After we finished painting at their place we came home to paint our back hall. Way back in December Jus tore down the ugly wood panelling and last weekend he & his dad installed a new back door. We picked a color called "Lemon Pepper" and I'm not sure if I like it or hate it, but we're planning to add some cork tiles to break it up. I'll be sure to show you the finished product, but for now here's a picture of Jus painting up a storm.

Sunday we cleaned the house and saw "Inception" which I would highly highly recommend.
All in all I'd say it was a pretty good weekend, and just because you all seem to like weddings as much as I do here's a picture of M & M that our friend took right after they got hitched, don't they look happy?

Have a happy Monday lovebugs!

My BFF's Wedding

As promised I am posting some of BFF Beth's wedding. Unfortunately my camera is not cooperating and so I have borrowed some pictures from my fellow bridesmaids, Libby & Laura, Banan, and BFF Beth's momma.

We spent the day before the wedding decorating the reception space, I love the tissue paper poofs!

And then we rehearsed (can you tell which shoes I'm wearing?)

Doesn't she look gorgeous?

As it turns out the maid of honor spends a fair amount of time under the bride's dress.

(PS Our sign says "We're hoping for a honeymoon baby! love your (honorable?) maids")

The weekend was absolutely wonderful, I enjoyed being able to help set up & organize the wedding with BFF Beth & her mom earlier in the week and I loved performing my Maid of Honor duties beyond what I needed. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I think I'd love to plan weddings for a job, but I guess I'll have to wait until after our wedding to see if that's a possibility.

Real People in Love: BFF Beth & Greg

This afternoon I'm taking off to central Illinois to celebrate BFF Beth's wedding. This is the first time I've been a Maid of Honor and I've enjoyed helping Beth with the little things I can. I can't wait to spend the week celebrating my BFF & the love of her life.
I thought it was only natural for me to ask BFF Beth & her fiance, Greg, to be my Real People in Love this week, and even though she doesn't have a blog or etsy shop I hope you'll help me in wishing them a happy wedding weekend & life together.

How old are you & Greg?
I am 25 and Greg is 28.

How long have you been together?
We've been together about 3 1/2 years.

What are your occupations?
Greg is a computer technician/genius/fixer of all things technological extraordinaire. I am a forever student, having just completed my masters and starting medical school in 3 months. Hopefully this is the last one.

How did you meet?
We more or less met at a local bar (yes, there are nice boys in bars), it included me drinking too many Coronas and talking WAY too much about myself. Apparently he "knew he was going to date me" (as he explained once we were dating) so it was all part of his master plan.

How did you get engaged?
I had just gotten into medical school so the timing was perfect. We had gone ring shopping earlier that day and I had shown him what I liked. We (sadly) went home empty handed and were getting ready to go out for the night. Greg asked me to take our dog, Zoe, out before we left so I went to put her on the leash. I noticed something on her collar and, SURPRISE, he already had the ring, he then got down on one knee and proposed. He did a wonderful job with the ring and I was oh so happy to finally be planning a wedding.

Tell us about your wedding day (not necessarily elements but feelings too):
Our wedding is this weekend (eek!!) so I'll have to get back to you on that.
I know it will go by too fast and will be a wonderful day marrying my best friend and love of my life and celebrating with friends and family.

Define Love:
Love is so many things. It is passion, commitment, respect, trust, caring more about someone else than yourself, being able to spend the day doing absolutely nothing but loving it because you are with your favorite person in the whole world.

What is the toughest part of being in a committed relationship?
For us I think it's compromising and getting used to living with another person all the time. We are both very stubborn and a bit in your face so we tend to argue with each other often. Since both of us being the oldest child we're used to getting what we want, so it tends to create some tension. But that's how we function. It may seem slightly dysfunctional but we have to go back and forth before we can find a solution.

What is the best part?
Being able to be so completely known and understood by another person. Sometimes I think Greg knows me better than I do. We truly balance each other out, like to halves of one whole. Gag, I know, but I always know I can go to him with absolutely anything, be it a problem with someone or just a happy feeling, and he can do the same. It's like we've created our own little community. And just being able to have someone you love so much all the time!

What is the best day the two of you have had together?
This is a tough one, because we've had so many different, wonderful days. Our 3rd year dateaversary was pretty great, we celebrated at the Melting Pot, which if you have a chance to go please do because it's the best. fondue. ever. We Love food and love to eat so our favorite activities tend to revolved around food.
One of our best weekends was Lollapalooza last year, Greg surprised me with tickets for my birthday and let me tell you, it was the best concert series I have ever been to. The weather was horrible but the music and people were so great it completely made up for it.

What makes you different from other couples?
All couples are unique in their own way, but we have our own little language/way of speaking. Honestly, if people heard the things we say they'd be like "um, hello, you two are a bunch of crazies" but it totally works for us. We understand all the crazy words and the voice we've adapted when we talk to each other all the time. I guess having a long distance relationship will do that to you since you have to become creative to keep phone calls from becoming too boring. We're just straight up weird.

What is your favorite thing to do together?
Eating. We love trying new restaurants and just going out to eat in general. Or cooking up homemade food at home (I love to cook and bake). We also love to go pick apples in the fall, I make homemade applesauce for the year so we always make a day out of it when we go. We are kind of a boring couple but I like it that way. Honestly, my parents have a more active social life than we do, sad I know, but I'll partially attribute it to laziness.

Do you have a song?
No, I wish we did but we just never really established one. Kind of surprising considering what a music freak Greg is. Play him 10 seconds of just about any song and he'll give you the name and artist. I'm in awe of his musical knowledge, mostly cause I have none.

What is the most essential element of making it?
Picking your battles. I don't know how many times I've been given this advice but it's completely true. Especially since we're both so stubborn. Some fights just aren't worth having so know which ones you really want to fight for and which ones will be better left passing on.

What are your hopes for the future?
It's going to be a long next 4-8 years with me starting medical school and going through all that jazz. But we hope to get a house and have some babies in like 3 years but we'll have to see what happens. We are both very career minded since we completely and utterly love what we do, but family is very important so we definitely want to have one at some point.

Anything else the world needs to know about love?
Love isn't easy but it's worth it. Don't give up on finding love because it's out there. All you need is love.

Beth, Thank you so much for participating! I can't wait to celebrate with you this weekend!

And to the rest of you, have a great end of your week/weekend, I'm going to be taking the rest of the week off to help BFF Beth celebrate her big day and help de-stress as much as possible.
See you next week!

A Long Weekend Hangover

Do you feel a little hungover after a long weekend? Not so much from drinking but just from being off schedule?
I find it so hard to get back in the swing of it after spending the whole weekend with Jus. Normally, I get Mondays off to recoup but this weekend was a busy one for me and I just don't feel ready for the work week to begin.
I spent Saturday celebrating my BFF Beth at the bachelorette party I planned for her.
BFF Beth & me at Round Barn

We went wine tasting in Southwestern Michigan and then spent the night in Chicago celebrating our bride a little more.
Our group at the second stop

I had never been wine tasting before and even though I'm not a huge wine drinker I absolutely loved the day. Having a driver take us from vineyard to vineyard was the best way to spend a warm, sunny Saturday. If you have some vineyards near you do yourself a favor this summer and make a trip to taste some wine, I promise it'll be fun and relaxing.

Did you have a fun & relaxing weekend?

PS You didn't think I had forgotten about the giveaway, did you?

100 Photos: Day 53

I spent all day chatting with my BFF Beth, no one gets as excited about weddings as another bride does.
(Sorry for the old picture, I was too caught up in catching up to remember to take one)
