Changing Up My Look

This winter is a killer, I'm so tired of the same old snow & cold routine that I'm dreaming of something new, something warm, something fun.

Yesterday I decided to switch up my normal makeup routine. Normally I look something like this.

I tend to wear a decent amount of makeup but try to make it look like I'm not wearing too much. I've been wearing makeup since middle school and in high school I got into Mary Kay, I even sold it for a while. Now, I stick to Mary Kay's skincare products and act like a kid in a candy store whenever I walk into Sephora. I go from one display to the next layering everything possible.

Like most girls I have issues with my features, my eyes are too small, my lips are non existent & extremely pale, my nose is sorta fat (I know, how can your nose be fat?), my eyebrows are thin from years of plucking almost bare.

But one of my nonresolutions is to be happy with myself so instead I play up my bright smile, the way my eyes sparkle when I'm happy, and the fact that the first wrinkles appearing on my face are crows feet from smiling.

Normally I wear Mary Kay eyebrow liner, Benefit Boi-ing concealor, Lorac After Party eyeshadow layered on top of Stila Sparkle eyeshadow, Maybelline Unstoppable eyeliner in Onyx, Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara (my all time favorite!), sometimes a little Mary Kay mineral cheek color in Golden Copper, a dusting of Mary Kay mineral powder, and Nars lipgloss in Female Trouble (I hate the name but love the color!)

But, as I said, yesterday I wanted something new, something different.

I skimped on the makeup, and man did the shopping bags under my eyes appear.

I stuck to my normal concealer & powder routine but skipped eye makeup except for mascara. And then I swiped on some Nars lipstick in Red Lizard and walked out the door.

It was fun to play up my lips instead of my eyes, people asked if I had big plans for the night, I felt a little sexier despite the fact that my dirty hair was in a messy pony.

And while I loved feeling a little more glamorous the best part of my day came at dinner, when I asked Jus what he thought of my lips and he replied that they were ok but that I had enough lips on my own.

I promise, I'm not trying to rub in how amazing my husband is, but I am damn lucky to have such a guy.

And lest you think I'm bowing down to the makeup gods and not truly embracing my own beauty I'm going to take a cue from some brave bloggers and truly embrace my beauty.

There you have it, a makeup-less Cole in my Grace Potter tee with wet hair, it doesn't get much better than this. (Well, that's a lie, I much prefer the way I look with some makeup on)

Do you ever change up your make up look?

I think you look so great all 3 ways! It is fun to change it up, but I definitely fall into my routine for the most part. I have a day look and a night look (which is just my day look with eyeliner. :) Maybe I need to step outside my comfort zone.

I love the red lipstick on you! Great for a quick, easy change. But, I also agree with Kelsey - you truly look great all three ways.

I generally do the same thing every day, and just put on some more black (or colored) eyeliner if I go out at night. I still have no idea how to cover the dark circles under my eyes. Nothing I do works and it gets so frustrating!

Maybe its just me, but I think you are GORGEOUS with NO makeup!

Ooh I love the red liptick!

I pretty much wear the same stuff every day. Every now and again I'll change my eye makeup up a bit but for the most part I know what I like and I stick with that.

You're a total natural beauty!!!! Lucky girl.
I love all the looks on you, but if I looked that good with no make up on, I wouldn't even bother.

ooo. It is neat to see how different the two make styles are. I always feel like no matter what I do my makeup looks like the same. Lately, I've been playing around with different eye shadow shades to see which ones look best.

I love the red lipstick! I was thinking of daring to try that for Valentine's Day but I'm not sure.
You look so pretty all three ways though, and it sounds like you have an awesome hubby! :)

I love the red lipstick on you! I think you're really pretty. You have one of those skin tones that can work with lots of looks.

Also, I have a fat nose. I seriously never complain about it to anyone because I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. You can tell on my Vlog!

you are beautiful without make-up but i do love the red lips :)

i don't wear as much make-up as i used to, but if i'm going out and want to put some on, it's always the same routine. i should play around with eye shadows and lipsticks...

you are damn lucky to have such a guy ;) i know what that feels like and you want to gush about it always because i'm just as lucky with my husband :) and that... that can make even my bedhead and glasses with no make up on feel beautiful :)

You're stunning. I have never had the bravery to try fun lips, but this just might inspire me :)

I LOVE the red lips, Cole! I just recently started wearing lipstick on a regular basis and I feel so girly and sophisticated when I do. I love your done up eye makeup too though.

I change my makeup looks ALL the time, depending the occasion, what I'm wearing (fancy vs. casual), what the weather is like, etc.

I'm totally doing a no-makeup post now.

I don't ever change my makeup look. I just wear eyeliner and blush everyday. Ocassionally when I go out to dinner or to a party, holidays, etc, I will wear eyeshadow, mascara and a tad of bronzer, but never lipstick. I just can't seem to pull that off like you!

I always feel way too weird with lipstick on, but I generally wear the same makeup everyday.

You are so pretty! I wish I looked good in red lipstick, but I just wind up looking like a circus escapee.

Can I just say that I am insanely jealous of your awesome red lipstick wearing abilities?!?!?! Jealoussss

You have such a gorgeous smile! And no reason to feel inadequate about anything else on that pretty face. I've never been a big makeup girl, but I've recently begun a love affair with Ulta and the amazing makeup products I've found there. Over the past three months I've invested in better products and I can honestly say I'm ten times happier with the results. I've always been a thrifty person, but I'm now a convert in the makeup department. If only my bank account could keep up :)
