Real People in Love: Carolyn & Jason

I'm not entirely sure why but I really love featuring high school sweethearts in Real People in Love. Perhaps it's because they've been together for so long and have already gone through so much growing up together.
Carolyn & Jason are high school sweethearts that make staying with the person you chose as a teenager look like the right decision. Carolyn blogs over at Three's Company where she documents their love, life and adorable little boy.

How old are you & Jason?
I am 26 and my husband is 28

How long have you been together?
We have been married for 6 years this April, and together for almost 10. High school sweethearts! :)

What are your occupations?
Jason is a lineman for Alabama Power and I am a stay at home mommy. I have a degree in Elementary Education, but hope to stay home as long as possible!

How did you meet?
We knew each other in Jr. High/High School. Sat at the same lunch table for 2 years but never spoke. A few years later, he joined the youth choir at my church and we got to know each other better

How did you get engaged?
On vacation with my family in Destin, Florida.

Tell us about your wedding day (not necessarily elements but feelings too):
It was absolutely perfect. We got married in April, and the weather had been wonderful all week. Then, on our wedding day, it turned COLD! But that didn't stop us from having a great day... even though we left the airport the next morning in shorts and t-shirts (heading to the Dominican Republic) in 40 degree weather. That day went by so fast! It's almost a blur. I remember being excited, nervous, and scared. We were very young and I remember thinking, "Can we do this?" But we have an amazing relationship, and the Lord is the center of it. He has blessed us tremendously. If I can give any advice to the bride on her wedding day it would be to SLOW DOWN and enjoy the day. I wish I could go back and do it all over again... it was one of the best days of my life!

Define Love:
Love is unconditional. And like the Bible says, it's patient and kind. It's understanding. Everyone makes mistakes. We all say/do things we regret. But love forgives. True love lasts forever. I love my husband with every bone in my body. Life gets tough sometimes... but when you have someone to tackle life's problems with, it's much easier. And having a child has really shown me what love is. I never knew I could have so much love for one individual. My two boys are my everything!

What is the toughest part of being in a committed relationship?
Honestly, my husband and I have been so blessed. We don't argue often, and when we do, we get over it. :) I guess the toughest part of being in a relationship is learning to communicate. Neither of us can read minds. I have learned that the hard way!

What is the best part?
The best part is having a best friend. My husband truly is my best friend. Also, sharing special moments, like getting married, buying a home, and having a child. It's wonderful to have someone that you love so much to share these special moments in life with.

What is the best day the two of you have had together?
The best day we have had together would definitely be the day our son, Jase, was born. He is the light of our lives and we are so thankful that the Lord chose us to be his Mommy and Daddy.

What makes you different from other couples?
Hmm... well, I don't know if we are different. I guess I would have to say that we truly are soulmates. We met at the perfect time in our lives. We needed each other. And God knew that. I truly believe in my heart that He created us for one another.

What is your favorite thing to do together?
We love spending time with our families. But we also love to fish. My husband is a fisherman at heart. And I love to watch him. (And he has taught me a few things over the years.) We just recently took Jase on his first fishing trip, and I have a feeling we will be making that a regular outing!

Do you have a song?
Not really. We both have a love for music, and I am always finding songs that mean something to me. If I hear a lyric that just describes us perfectly, I'll text it to him while he's working... hopefully it lifts his spirits and makes him smile.

What is the most essential element of making it?
Trust and honesty. You absolutely must be honest with one another. And there is no need to worry about anything if you trust each other. Without those two things, it just doesn't work.

What are your hopes for the future?
We hope to expand our family soon! That's very exciting! And we also hope to sell our first home and build/buy in the next year or so. We need more room for that growing family! :)

Anything else the world needs to know about love?
It's important to not only love your spouse, but to love others around you. We were put here to do one thing: to show love to others. You never know what someone else may be going through. If you show them love, it just might change their whole situation and outlook on life.

As always, if you'd like to participate in the Real People in Love series just shoot me an email!
